Startup Network SUN

When SUN came to the agency I worked for for a rebrand and redesign of their website, we were originally inspired by the Pentagram rebranding of the University of Sussex. We played with serif fonts, set in a letterpress style over colorful shapes, and arrived at a combination of a more serious, dark blue main color and the circle as a window into the colorful and diverse inner workings of the student network. When you scroll the website, the gradient in the circle slowly changes, and different images appear in it to illustrate the sections of text on the left side. This turns the journey down the home page into a consistent story about SUN that is being told to the user.

The gradients visible in the circle when a certain section appears on the left are carried over into the sub pages corresponding to the sections. For example, when the section about appears left, the gradient on the right is red and pink, so when you click through to the about page, the header has the same gradient.

It was challenging to create a visual for SUN that was serious enough for their stakeholders and investors while also being vibrant and exciting to appeal to the students in the network. I had a lot of fun figuring out the details of which gradients worked, and designing content that made sense while basically only seen through a hole in the website.
